What is Refashion?
Wonder what this Refashion talk is all about? Traditionally the Webster’s Dictionary defines refashion as “To fashion anew; to form or mold into shape a second time, to remake”.
You can refashion your image, your budget or the world. All very good impulses, but here I’ll focus on wardrobe refashion: the creation of clothing and accessories from reclaimed materials.
Well-loved sweaters morph into scrumptious mitten sets, cast-off chip bags transform into fabulous totes, vintage slips are revamped into funky cocktail dresses…
Clearly refashioning is not a totally new concept, but lately the idea has gained traction: fashionistas everywhere are looking for something more personal and earth friendly than the mass produced wares, something that flaunts style and substance.
There are basically two ways to join the fun and become a refashionista:
You can refashion, renovate, and recycle pre-loved items with your own hands. It’s a steep learning curve, but totally addictive. Antoinette is always a great inspirations over at clevergirl.org.
Alternatively you can benefit from all the talented artists, that are already creating stylish refashion. A great place to start is the Refashion awards or urban craft fairs for handmade and refashioned clothing.
Either way, have fun and refashion!
